Bathurst to Wagga Wagga

NSW Countryside - Bathurst to Wagga

Leaving Bathurst 15 Feb, we travelled through Cowra to Grenfell.  Stopped and shopped for some supplies and walked the Main Street - taking a picture with Henry Lawson.

On to stay the night in Barmedmon - reasonable overnight free camps spot.  The Barmedmon Mineral Pool was an experience...very slimy bottom, but a great float.  I have to say, I feel quite relaxed having soaked in the minerals for an hour or so.  We wondered at the community that must have built the pool ‘in the day’.  I could imagine endless weekends of volunteers ‘manning’ the concrete mixer.  It must be a wonderful asset for such a tiny community.

On to Temora...great memories of a family weekend with good friends many years ago when we visited the Temora Air Museum.  It has come along way since then.  The artefacts and display support are seriously professional.  The history of air training and achievement in this tiny town are quite amazing.  One can only imagine the support the training facilities must have been in WWII.  The number of 20,000+ pilots being trained are astounding.

We went to Temora Town and had a quick lunch in a bakery before heading down to Junee.  We had visited the Junee Licorice Factory once before so I knew what I wanted - organic licorice and a chocolate freckle!.    The factory is an old flour mill, similar to the Crago Mill in Bathurst (a little smaller).  It has been wonderfully repurposed and fitted out to a tourist facility that offers tours and viewing of licorice and chocolate making with a great cafe and gift shop with ambience.  Something we would love to see in Bathurst in context.

Travelling from Junee to Wagga Wagga, we camped the night at the Showgrounds.
