We awoke to a beautiful blue clear sky. Temperature somewhere between 6 C and 20 C for the day to come. After a continental breakfast, we walked the few minutes to the Termini and caught the Metro to Ottaviano..and then walked the Via Cola di Rienzo, over the Ponte Margherita to Piazza del Popolo.
Wandering around the lanes and cobblestone streets we window shopped and marvelled at the history. While not yet peak season, there were plenty of tourists - Russians, Germans, Australians, English, New Zealanders, American…a melting pot of cultures all walking the streets, eating the food, taking pictures and just ‘being’ in a place that has featured in so many novels, history books, movies and recounts.
Moving south we continued walking the via del Corso and lanes past Palazzo Monticitoria, the Pantheon, Piazzo Navona to Via del Gioverno Vecchio to find a little trattoria in an alley and rest with a Limincello spritzer, Roman Pizza and Salad - topped with an espresso to boost us for the walk back to our accommodation.
