The Ring of Kerry and Tralee

We left Cork relatively early to travelling to Killarney where we enjoyed a really nice coffee and a wander around, visiting Killarney House, finding a Duck Shop!

Rather than spend a lot of time in Killarney we hit the road fairly quickly to travel the Ring of Kerry. The weather was absolutely stunning, the best I’ve really had in Ireland.   It was clear blue skies and we drove through the large granite mountains that surround the lake. The National Park is just stunning.

We stopped at Torc Waterfall and walked up to the falls where the midday light dappled though the tall trees - it was quite magical.

We continued driving and then got to Ladies View which looks back toward Killarney.  It is a wide and spectacular vista, but doesn’t really show the scale of the granite mountains - I wish we had stopped along the way to get a picture of lake in the foreground and huge steep stone mountains on the side to sky in the background.

We lunched near Sneem at a small cafe and then continued around the Peninsula, stopping at viewpoints to take in the sea views…the wide expanse of Atlantic Ocean, with small islands in the distance.  Magical views - blue sky, misty mountains and isles in the distance as we stood on the cliffs beside the road.  A quick ice cream stop at Ballinskerrig before making the final stint for the afternoon.

We found our lodgings in a small village outside of TraLee - Blennerville.  Old converted stables turned into AirBnB cottages, off a small single lane way.

We wandered down to Fenit  (on the northern coast line) for fish and chips and a walk along the beach.

At the end of the day we sat at home, catching up on our bits and pieces before a long and peaceful sleep.
